Nie wieder schlafen – Nie mehr zurück

Berlin, late summer in 1991: a rainy wedding party on a steamer on the Spree which entails hanging out with argumentative, manically dancing and otherwise strange men is apparently something to get away from as quickly as possible. That’s at least how the protagonists Rita (Lisa Kreuzer), Roberta (Gabriela Herz) and Lilian (Christiane Carstens) see it, who are visiting from Hamburg and now, back on land, set off on a curious wander through the newly reunited city. The three friends roam through urban topographies, visit pubs by night, document the sediments of Germany history and talk about yearnings and contradictions. NIE WIEDER SCHLAFEN – NIE MEHR ZURÜCK is at once the episodic investigation of a friendship as well as the precise snapshot of a city in upheaval – and not least an experimental and playful road movie, shifting from cheerful and laconic to reflective and melancholic.
